Cameras have become an integral part of our society. They are carried in our pockets and mounted to walls. As a result, crimes are more and more frequently captured in images and recorded on video. In daily life, it’s no longer uncommon to see a crime unfold in images and videos in our 24-hour news cycle. Law enforcement would like to leverage that kind of evidence to strengthen public safety and help solve crimes. But sometimes those critical clues are locked behind sensor noise, poor lighting, and blurry images; or they are too minute or hard to see the forensic details. Experts trained in digital forensics can use photoshop technology as a powerful tool, and when put in the hands of trained law enforcement, these tools can assist them in getting crucial information from various digital media.

Think Big is proud to announce that the first Smart City Tech Summit focused on public safety will include a keynote address from John Penn II, Senior Computer Scientist on Photoshop and the Senior Solutions Architect for Law Enforcement for Adobe in Silicon Valley. Mr. Penn has spent more than three decades writing software and exploring the role software plays in the prevention and investigation of internet crimes against children, and crimes involving digital media. He has been instrumental in the development of advanced victim identification tools and techniques, and as a digital forensics expert who provides the necessary implementation and training for police officers and federal agents.

Penn believes that understanding public safety challenges and the role technology plays in keeping our citizens safe, is critical to the development of useful new tools. For example, understanding what happens to a photo in the various stages of its lifecycle, from camera to evidence, can make all the difference between a tool that works well in the lab, and one that works well in the field.

Join us at Smart City Tech Summit March 29 –31 in Kansas City to hear John’s thought process behind new public safety technologies and the tools Adobe is developing.
